Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative (HSLI)
Beginning in the summer of 2015, North Providence School Department (NPSD) has been awarded a grant from Hasbro and United Way. Kids Klub is partnering with NPSD to provide this program.
Eligibility
This six week program is offered to a limited number of students attending a North Providence elementary school, currently in grades 3, 4, or 5. Through the partnership with NPSD and Kids Klub, students are chosen to attend, by invitation only. Various scholarships are available.
About the HSLI Grant
The Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative Grant is awarded to programs that make it imperative to have a service learning program portion at their Summer Learning Program as well as reduce learning loss over the summer. This grant, with the collaboration of NPSD, has offered Kids Klub the opportunity to work alongside NPSD teachers who educate and assess the children over a six week program.
Kids Klub Student Achievements
Through various assessments, the teachers can better evaluate student learning. The test results from the 2015 program showed academic gains in literacy (26.40%) and mathematics (42.70%) during the first year of the summer learning program for North Providence students.
The test results from the 2016 program showed academic gains in both literacy and math, which exceeded the average percentage increase seen in other HSLI programs. The overall percentage change from pre- to post-test scores in literacy and mathematics for all students in HSLI funded programs in 2016 was + 21.95% in literacy and + 29.98% in math. The percentage change from test scores in literacy and mathematics for our Kids Klub HSLI program was +100.62% in literacy and +56.31% in mathematics.
